JUNE 15 - THE BIGGEST NY METS DATE IN HISTORY OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE
June 15 is a date that lives in infamy in the minds of all NY Mets fans, and now a new event to occur this June 15 will solidify this date forever.
/Baseball News Articles/ - SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, May 06, 2007 - The middle of June, and specifically June 15, is, without a doubt, the biggest Mets date in the history of the entire universe. On that date in 1977 the Midnight Massacre occurred, when Tom Seaver was traded away, beginning the team's descent into darkness, which continued until June 15, 1983 when Keith Hernandez was traded to the Mets, ushering in a new dawn.
And on June 15, 2003, Jose Reyes, the catalyst for the new reborn Mets, hit his first major league home run - a grand slam! - beginning a new era once again. Other mid-June historic events include Jim Bunning's perfect game against the Mets on June 21, 1964, and the first Mets-Yankees interleague game, on June 16, 1997, a game that the Mets won handily on Dave Mlicki's shutout, showing all of New York for once and for all who the better team really was - this absolute and unalterable fact was not refuted by the Subway Series of 2000, because all Mets fans know that if it wasn't for the incredible number of lucky bounces that the Yankees had during that series, the Mets would have crushed them in four straight games.
Now a new Mets occurrence on June 15, 2007 will continue the June legacy. On that date the new, hilarious and irreverent Mets novel, The Knuckleball From Hell, will be released, and with it, the mid-June date will continue to be cemented in Mets fans minds as the biggest date in history.
Author Dr. Michael Wayne, a Brooklyn, NY native, says "because of my love for the Mets, I wanted the book to come out on June 15, in order to give Mets fans another reason to keep the tradition alive." Wayne continues on and says, "I wanted it to be an irreverent novel, in keeping with the founding spirit of the Mets, a team brought to life by Casey Stengel, who was the king and sultan of swat of irreverence."
In keeping with the book's fun loving style, the book's website, www.knuckleballfromhell.com is sponsoring a weekly Mets/baseball trivia contest. Every week fresh questions will be posted and there will be three winners of a free copy of The Knuckleball From Hell.
